This past weekend, hubs, bubs, + I jumped in our truck and made our way to the tree farm to find and cut down our Christmas tree. We stopped for coffee + a timbit donut for George and we drove a little over 40 minutes out of the city. We had to make a quick pit stop because GBB was not super happy in his carseat, so we got out and stretched our legs. Before we pulled off the highway, hubs and I were trying desperately to cheer GBB up–handing him all sorts of random things in the truck (“oh look George how cool is this…uh…babe, what is this?” and a whole lot of “are you hungry? do you want a snack? oh no? oh ok, yeah, those blueberries can be squashed into the truck door, no problem”). Oh toddler life. It’s in full force these days + so very exciting…
When we arrived at the farm, it was downright magical. I couldn’t wait to get out of the car + explore. Ha. I think I was more excited than George. Actually, I’m fairly certain I was much more excited than him. He was totally bundled up a la Ralphie from “A Christmas Story” and was pretty much ready for a nap the moment we got there.
ANYWAY.
There were Christmas trees everywhere. EVERYWHERE! And twinkle lights. And red bows. And hot chocolate. And children running around. And a tractor ride. And I felt so happy. I told hubs that I really want to own a Christmas tree farm one day–IMAGINE!!? Ugh, it would be the very best. Oh, and there were horses! HORSES!
We took the tractor ride + even though we were freezing, it warmed my heart to see families all together choosing their tree. I don’t think I could ever go to a tree farm without Aaron though. I literally had the hardest time choosing “the one”. I just wanted it to be perfect! I had no idea I was such a tree snob, ha, but we kept walking around and checking them out, and then…I saw it. A really pretty blue spruce tree. We should’ve cut it down right then and there because I, of course, started to hmm and haa over it “do we liiiiike the blue or no?”, “gee babe, what do you think? I just really don’t know”. Meanwhile, my boys were starting to get cold + irritated so I quickly made up my mind and now we have the most perfect tree in our living room! The most perfect Christmas tree I’ve ever had!
Hubs handled the lights on the tree and George + I have been slowly decorating it (and GBB has been un-decorating it) and I think it’s almost done. I’ve really been debating creating a popcorn garland but I don’t know if this will entice both my toddler and my kitty to munch on it. The struggle.
We’ve been listening to a lot of Christmas radio–there’s something about listening to CHFI around the holidays that really puts me in a festive mood. We’ve also been rocking around the Christmas tree to my favourite holiday playlist. GBB has been really into holding onto my finger + twirling like a boss. Plus, he is the ultimate swag daddy and bops like nobody’s business. It’s pretty amazing to watch. My little drummer boy ;)
I thought I would share a few of my favourite holiday jams (there were just too many to list!) and I hope they put you in the festive mood! Oh, and please please pretty please, let me know what songs are your absolute favourite for the holiday season!
Fa La La La Laaaaaa!
