SO.
We decided to visit Prince Edward Island + we were going to take the ferry across. We had no reserved ticket so it was understood that we would arrive and sit + wait in line to (hopefully) get a spot on the ferry. They only take a certain amount of vehicles each trip. Oh, and there’s a new ferry trip every 2.5 hours so if we missed one, we’d have to wait in the line-up for the next one. No biggie right?! Well…
We packed up our campsite real early in Nova Scotia and made our way to the ferry in hopes to catch the very first trip to PEI. The idea of sitting in a parked RV with a super excited toddler for two and a half hours stressed me out–and that is exactly what happened. We didn’t get on the first boat. So, we made some food + Hubs had a nap. George, Eloise, and I sat in the front of the RV eating animal crackers and trying not to get too bored. It’s hard when you can’t really go anywhere + you’re trying to entertain a 3 year old who is the epitome of excitement (…and is working on his patience). I think I brought out some candy I had stashed for this type of situation…oh, and I forgot to mention, George was also refusing naps. Like, REFUSING to nap. So, we had an overtired-overexcited toddler snacking on candy and animal crackers–yes, I’ve painted a really pretty picture, right? LOL. Mama of the year?!
ANYWAY.
We luckily got on the next ferry (actually, we were the last vehicle to be let on. Praise hands emoji!), and I popped Ellie in the Ergo and she napped. We went on a mission to get some protein for George and to go stretch our legs. Ferries are pretty cool + the sun was shining. I actually managed to sneak away from the boys to sit on the deck and read. BY MYSELF. There was quite a lot of wind but it was heaven. Aaron attempted to get GBB to nap back in the RV while we travelled over to PEI but that didn’t go down so smoothly. I was alone (well, a snoozing Ellie was on me) watching us dock into PEI + then I made my way down to the RV so we could continue our adventure.
We started driving and Hubs lets me know that we are very low on gas. Please know that we are driving into a total farm province with no gas stations within kms. I knew that we’d be okay (I remained totally positive!) + luckily we found a corner store/gas station at the very last second…imagine if our RV ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere?! Now that would be great blog content LOL. Also, my nightmare.
Prince Edward Island is a beautiful province. It is so stunning + the care that is taken to keep the land looking clean and pristine is admirable and inspiring. I have never experienced such a vastness in space but with a cozy feeling. Everyone we met were just so kind + even when we popped into Charlottetown to get a bite to eat that we had to literally get wrapped up as soon as our pints were dropped off at our table because our 3 year old wasn’t in the restaurant mood/spilled his water/climbed onto our table… (we’re not there yet in our life yet, haha). I should mention, I became a champion fast drinker this trip. I had to always finish my drink fast because we had to ditch the restaurants quickly all the dang time. Thanks George Bear ;)
We drove 45 minutes from Charlottetown to Cavendish. That’s the beauty of this sweet little province; the ability to drive from one end to the other in less than an hour. And holy moly, Cavendish was stunning. We immediately drove into a park to see the breathtaking red sand dunes + Aaron and George took a little dip as the sun was setting. It was a magical moment for me. The landscape was unlike anything I’ve seen before and here I was with my family experiencing it. In that moment, as the sun was setting and Aaron + GBB were enjoying the water, and Eloise was sitting on my hip, I just felt so deeply grateful. I felt so at peace and so relaxed. It just felt so right. Like there was nowhere else I’d rather be or anyone else I’d rather be with. It was a moment I’ll treasure forever.
Our campground was a few minutes away + we set up camp and enjoyed the grounds. It was very family-friendly + had the best amenities! The skies were clear and the air was so fresh. Like, so fresh.
We enjoyed Cavendish Beach and although I didn’t go in the ocean with the boys, I enjoyed the soft sand + people watching. Ha, one of my favourite past-times. It was a slow but wonderful beach day–and what a game changer having an RV to change in/get cozy after a beach day! I don’t know if I’ll ever tent it again (unless I’m canoe camping!). I feel like the RV helped me not feel like everything was covered in sand…
I dragged the family to get some COWS Ice Cream because I didn’t have a chance to get any in Nova Scotia + I knew that I had to have this East Coast specialty. Andddd it was pretty delicious. I had “Chip Chip Hooray” ice cream–pieces of chocolate covered potato chips broken into my ice cream…I mean, it was insane + I wish I was eating it right now.
After two days of camping in PEI, we packed up and drove across the Confederation Bridge (which is so cool + I’m surprised I wasn’t a bit nervous going over such a large bridge!) to start our trip to Ottawa.
We were celebrating our five year wedding anniversary on the 9th and my sister was getting married on the 10th of August! Our plan was to head to Quebec City for one night + then make our way to Ottawa! I had never been to Quebec City so I was pretty excited to see it…and of course, I was beyond thrilled to celebrate my little sister’s marriage!
