Born at home at the beginning of a pandemic + here we are still at home during our third lockdown (ugh on so many levels!). My pandemic baby–sure, you haven’t experienced Early On centres and frequent trips to the library and family + friend visits but we have snuggled and giggled + watched your big siblings play and play and play + entertain us for a year. We’ve gone on nature walks and lounged on the back porch. You’ve been living your best life in the Ergo and napping on mama for one whole year. I’m not even upset about it. Not even one ounce.
I said it the day you were born; you’ve taught me strength. And I didn’t realize how much so until we’ve had one year around the sun together. This last year was a hard one for alot of the world + we struggled in some ways as a family but you brought us so much magic and joy. It was very easy to find solace in your cuddles and with every milestone you reached. The joy we found in your first giggle, your first time trying food, your first steps; it meant so much to all of us. TomTom, you are a pure delight and our lives are deeply enriched because of you.
There is little you do not love–car rides + being in your car seat for too long + diaper changes top the list. You’re also not a huge fan of baths but I have a feeling that will change soon. You’re also not a huge fan of waiting for nummies (mama’s milk!) + when I have to take unsafe things from your death grip–you’re favourite? CORDS. George thinks you’re going to be an electrician when you grow up, ha.
You love to clap, dance to all music, trains, hot wheels, and balls. Anything that moves or makes you wiggle, you’re into! Thomas, you love your big brother and sister + for very different reasons, ha. GBB makes sure you’re okay and will make you laugh + smile HUGE and Eloise likes to chase you + “help” you very very enthusiastically. She has nicknamed you “Toots” and I think it’ll stick, it’s too cute.
Words like “uh oh”, “cat”, “mama”, and “dada” are just flowing + it’s going to be a hot minute until you’re just as chatty as the biggies. Daddy is your favourite daddy and you’ve both had a bit more time to be solo with one another + that’s been pretty magical and fun. I would like to say that I am still very much your person AND I’M NOT MAD ABOUT IT. I am pretty dang happy to have you as my sidekick + even though you have a ton of teeth and have had the occasional habit of testing them on my (poor) nips, nursing you is very sweet. I am grateful to be able to continue to provide you with nummies.
We love you so much Thomas Beau! You light up our lives + I can’t wait to keep getting to know you–you’re the rolliest and sweetest angel. Happiest first birthday to my baby boy. Thank you again for choosing me to be your mama; I am the luckiest.
