I spend my days chasing after George, trying to keep the house relatively tidy, and making sure I have something close to a dinner prepared. Some days, I really rock. I totally have the whole stay-at-home-mama/mat leave thing down. But some days really seem to drag on + I feel as though I can’t get anything done!
I have always been quite the busy bee but some days I find it really hard to be productive when my days can seem mundane and really long. You all know how much I love GBB + I am so very fortunate to be able to be home with my little, but holy moly macaroni, some days I’m like whattttt is happening/I’ve got zero done. And most days I’m totally okay with it. But there are days that I wish I could get more done. Or anything done, really.
With that being said, I decided to chill out + create a plan on how I can shake the feeling of my lack of productivity and get to work on the to-do list (and get to that pile of laundry…).
Here are the Five Ways I Boost my Productivity:
- No matter what time we wake up, I always make my bed! Once I’ve grabbed my first cup of coffee (oh, it’s oh so good!) and set George up in the living room with a blanket full of toys, I dip into our bedroom and quickly fluff my pillows + make our bed. I automatically feel better when I do this! It’s the littlest things, you guys.
- I try my hardest to eat well during the day/make time to eat + drink a lot of water. Since George’s arrival, my water intake dropped dramatically. Because, coffee. It’s not okay and I am actively working on decreasing my coffee intake + increasing my water. When I am dehydrated (which often feels like every day), I feel sluggish and lazy and there is no way I am going to go for an extra-long walk around the block…this is not good for me + definitely not fun for little dude.
- After George’s bedtime, I always always always pick up the toys in the living room + put everything away. Hubs has said to me a few times “why not just leave them out, you’ll use them in the morning” and although that is very true, the act of putting all the toys away and cleaning up the room chills me out + makes me feel more organized and productive. And it makes me feel ready for a new day.
- I clean the kitchen after George goes to bed. Now, this is something I just started doing. Honestly, once GBB is sleeping all I want to do is shower, lay around, sleep, or mindlessly flip through my phone but waking up to the dishes from the night before has really started to ruin my days. Why would I want to spend my days cleaning the kitchen just to make meals to then make more dishes again?! Ahh! Plus the weather is much nicer and I would much rather be outside with little dude than washing piles and piles of dishes. So. I clean the kitchen at night, no matter how tired I am. Hubs does the dishes too some nights so that’s super helpful. And waking up to a clean kitchen makes me feel 100% more productive. Woo!
- I get dressed + put makeup on! Trust me. I want so badly want to wear my jammies all day err’ day + go makeup-free. But I find when I actually get dressed (even in my mom-iform of jeans and a tee!) and throw on a bit of mascara, I feel better. I also feel much more productive + I’m more willing to be out and about all day; even if it’s walking to the grocery store or popping into Booster Juice (brazilian thunder for life)!
I’m constantly trying to improve our day-to-day and ensure I am spending my days creating memories with George + that my days are not spent worrying about tidying or feeling sluggish + lazy. I have been pinning a lot of meal prep ideas + am working on our family household planner (I am a major organization geek!) and family command centre. Oh Pinterest, how I love you.
I’d love to hear what tips and tricks you use to stay productive! Leave me a comment below + help a sister out, ha.
