It’s awful. I was hoping this wouldn’t happen to me but yes, I am shedding. It’s actually gotten to a point now that I don’t even see the long strands of my hair on everything. I think I am mentally blocking it out. It is infuriating and I thought having a cat was bad. Nope. Post partum hair loss is bad and it’s real and I hate it.
Just the other day, I overheard hubs talking to GBB, “Oh dude, you have so much mommy hair on you”. Yep. “Mommy hair” is the newest thing in our home. So, because I wear my hair up often (top knot all day ‘err day) + I try to brush often but nothing seems to work…I went and got my hurr did.
As I had to push back this hair appointment due to the holidays + the madness that that entails, I was exceptionally excited about getting my hair done + chopped. I’m surprised I didn’t pull a Britney and shave it all off considering my crazy hair shedding mania.
I left George with daddy + had four hours (F O U R hours!) alone to get my hair brightened up and cut, two cups of hot (HOT!) coffee, and some wonderfully hilarious chats with my favourite ladies at Evolve Hair Studio. It was delightful; very much needed + oh, so appreciated.
Before I go on, I want to make something very clear here.
I, obviously, enjoyed my time solo + I definitely think it’s important to have those moments but I wasn’t in a desired need to be away from GBB. I didn’t (and don’t) feel run down (are you rolling your eyes yet? ha!) and as though I need a getaway. Most days, I just want a few minutes to shower/online (window) shop/blog and I’m a happy camper (and I am totally aware that this will change as my motherhood journey continues/GBB becomes more mobile/hubs and I add more littles to the circus, etc.).
Also, there is nothing wrong with wanting a break either.
Basically, what I’m trying to say here (which I am highly doubting my eloquency here) is that you have to do what you’re comfortable with + it’s okay to want to be with your kid all the time and it’s okay to want to be away from your kid too! I felt it necessary to add all this mumbo jumbo because lately my Facebook feed + random articles posted in my damn “What to Expect when You’re Expecting” app have been super into “hating” or “bashing” on motherhood (by moms + non-moms too!) or “how in order to stay sane, you must be away from your nugget(s) all the time” balogna.
Anyway. I’m rambling. I like being with my kid and I really liked those four hours alone too. Basically, life balance, amiright?
Back to the joy of hair loss. So. As this has been the bane of my existence, I thought I would ask the lovely ladies of Evolve Hair Studio (I love you Jody + Sonia!) to give me a few tips + tricks to share with you on how to maintain your hair and should you be suffering from hair loss, what is helpful!
- Regardless of the length of hair you would like to rock, layers around the face are ideal. Layers help conceal and blend the “bald”-ish areas or the baby hairs that are growing around your face. This all sounds so sexy, ha.
- Omegas are good! Take your vitamins!
- Eat well + drink a lot of water! This seems obvious + I know it’s been said time and time again, but treating your body right from the inside out is the most helpful + beneficial thing you can do!
- Don’t stress. This doesn’t help anything. Ever.
And those mamas who are still breastfeeding will experience a longer duration of post partum hair loss too! Y A Y (wahhhhhhh!).
I hope this was helpful + you’re not shedding as much as I am! (Note: I am already shedding way less with this new shorter do!).
XO
PS. I can’t wait to try out this hair mask! My hair dries out like C R A Z Y, so I’m looking forward to using it; I love Kevin Murphy products! I will keep you posted!

I’m glad I’m not the only one.. I’ve been losing hair like crazy (still nursing.. Little dude is almost 9 months) and finally got it chopped short to help. I’ve noticed a big change since it was cut, but it’s still dry. I’ll have to check out the hair mask ☺️
