As I’ve mentioned in GBB’s 6 month update post, I had his crib taken apart + we put his mattress on the floor. I was interested in getting George to nap alone + not on me but not interested in the crying that resulted from trying to get him into the crib. The crying was totally, mostly from me…ANYWAY.
My sister created a Montessori bed for my niece and I was always quite intrigued about it as Aria always seemed to enjoy her room; which was completely baby-proofed + totally her own room where she can play + create. I decided after many chats with my sis that I was too going to create a Montessori bedroom for my little dude. My thought was “well if this doesn’t work, I can always change my mind again + have Aaron put the crib back together…”, poor husband. He has put that crib together and taken it a part more times than George has actually slept in there, ha.
So.
I spent the last two weeks hanging out with George in his room and on his floor bed to get him used to his new space. The mattress is his crib mattress + he really likes his little lounge spot. I have a body pillow up against the wall + a thick blanket on the floor right beside his bed should he roll off. I have a pillow too, but that’s for me. ;)
GBB hasn’t rolled over yet (he’s more into the side roll because that’s how he falls asleep with the goods in his mouth, if you know what I mean, ha!) so I am not very worried about it occurring + if he does decide to roll, he is safe from falling. I removed any furniture in the room that wouldn’t be safe should he magically start standing/walking (if so, super-magical baby!), grab it and pull himself up on it. I have a fan on (but not directed towards baby and his bed) + the room is naturally dark, so it is quite cozy in there…and you better believe I sometimes debate taking a snooze in there too!
He hasn’t been enjoying naps on mommy as much anymore (WAHHHH!) because he’s a big boy + wants to stretch out. I followed his cues and started to nurse him to sleep in his glider/rocker (while he wears a super cute sleep sack!) + then transfer him to his floor bed. I lay beside him + nurse him should he need comforting and a little cuddle. And once George is sleeping, I roll outta there!! It’s brilliant!

I wish I could tell you that George sleeps soundly for hour-long naps but truthfully, we’re still learning on the solo naps so they are closer to 20-30 mins alone (which makes the days sometimes feel longer!) but oh my gosh, you guys, it makes a world of difference. I don’t really know what to do with myself during naps so most times, I sit on the couch extremely quietly and text my girlfriends a lot of “OMG OMG OMG I DID IT” with praise hands emojis! Ha! I did actually have a chance to do a face mask during his morning nap but then I heard phantom baby cries so I washed it off pretty quickly. Ugh, the phantom baby cries get me all the time. I can’t be the only one?! And why is it always when I’m in the bathroom?!
Montessori floor beds, you are so good to me + I am so excited for our future together ;)
