Without sounding like a crazy broken record, time is flying, I officially have a FOUR YEAR OLD (waittt. what? wasn’t GBB just born?!) + my heart is being literally pulled in two very opposing directions–I think this will always be the case with motherhood, no? I am full of pride, my heart swelling with joy + excitement for George. He is an incredible, incredible dude. He is smart and funny, and gives me a run for my money. He’s also sweet, and sensitive, but very guarded with his feelings. He will hide his hurt + often times will push past feelings of embarrassment. George is wise beyond his years. My sweet little “old man”. We fondly call him our “Renaissance man” and I know he is destined for big things.
Alongside my pride and admiration for this amazing boy, is my deep desire to hold onto every last snippet of “baby” left. Somedays (especially the hard days–four year olds are amazing + insane), I look at him + wish I could just scoop him up and nurse his worries away. I long for the days of long naps on the couch where we cuddle + cuddle for hours. Looking back, I am so proud and happy that I held him for every single nap in his first year. I am so happy we cuddled + nursed for as long as we did–I will cherish those memories forever.
This birthday is a huge turning point for us; George is no longer a baby but a kid. You guys, he starts Junior Kindergarten in the fall. HE’S GOING TO SCHOOL!!? I am beyond nervous and excited and sad and overjoyed. I am a ball of emotions.
ANYWAY.
We had a wonderful dino-themed backyard party for GBB with his closest friends + family. The kids ran around the backyard and it was very low key and I would definitely say the highlight was the piñata–which is often times the most fun + entertaining part of any bash. I LOVE watching the kiddos line up + try to whack the bananas out of a piñata. It’s too funny. We had a blast.
I decided that since dude is FOUR now, I could ask him some questions on his birthday (hoping to do this every year–or as long as he’ll let me, ha) + share them here. Afterall, this blog has very much become my “baby” book ;)
There is something so magical about this age; the conversations we’ve been having + his answers really do give a great glimpse into our little baby bowman (ah!! CUE TEARS!).

Happiest 4th birthday George! Mommy, Daddy, and Eloise (and Charles the cat!) love you so much! You are my favourite helper, my sweet best friend, and an absolute joy to be around. You are messy, and stinky, and love toilet humour. You love watching Rescue Bots + all things Transformers. You’re really into playing with marbles and if you could add a new Hot Wheel to your ever-growing collection every single day, you would. You are your sister’s hero + best friend and more often than not, you are sweet and kind with her; you’re a great help. Sure, you both fight + I know it can be super annoying for you when your sister destroys all your “creations”, but I know you have a deep unshakeable love for her. Thank you for being such a great big brother + holding her hand when we cross the road or when we are walking through a parking lot. You’re always up to help, and your dad + I couldn’t be more proud.
4 is a big year for us Booboo + I am excited to see how much you grow and bloom. I love you more than I could ever explain + if I think about it too hard, I will cry for hours, ha.
We love you George! You’re the best!!
XO
