Oh, how I love to decorate for fall. It may be my absolute favourite time of year. I always equate September + fall with a brand new year. Probably because of “back-to-school” outfits and new binders + pens. I love that I can smell the change in the air. I love that the weather gets a bit crisper + I am always overflowing with inspiration and desire to craft all day err’ day.
In regards to decor, there is nothing I love more than a tassel garland. They make a statement and always make me feel in a party mood. As I am working on a festive fall tassel garland for George’s nursery, I thought I would share a cute DIY so you can get in on the tassel action too!
DIY Tassel Garland
You will need:
+ Tissue paper in the colour(s) of your choice (I chose orange, golden rod, purple, black, + white)
+ Scissors
+ A desk/table/cutting mat
+ String (I use baker’s twine!)
+ Music and coffee are optional but highly recommended
Take a single sheet of tissue paper and fold lenthwise. Cut the tissue in half.
Start cutting strips towards the seam of the tissue paper (you can make the strips any width; I’m wild and cut with abandon but try and leave one inch at the top of the tissue paper).
Once you’ve finished cutting the strips, open up your tissue paper. Start rolling + folding the tissue paper. Twist the middle of the tassel and create a little loop.
And, voila! A tassel!
Make as many tassels as you like and string them up. BOOM! A festive tassel garland!
If you’re on Instagram, post a pic of your tassel garland and use the hashtag #HBXOdiytassels! I’d love to see them!
