It’s been awhile + I have been dying to craft something festive and fun for our home. As I am often on Pinterest (hoarding all the pins), I stumbled upon a few super cute felt banners and I knew I needed to make one for Halloween. I was totally inspired by a felt banner made by SharpToothStudio on Etsy.
(PS. If you’re interested in seeing what I’ve been pinning on my DIY board, you can check it out here.)
I’m sure if you’ve been following me on IG (@hollybowmanxo) for a bit you’ll know that Hocus Pocus is my all-time favourite Halloween movie. I’ve loved it since I was a kid + it puts me in the greatest mood ever. I typically have it playing every day in October…this year has been harder as George and I have been in and out of the house + he prefers Bob the Builder and Curious George…
ANYWAY.
GBB napped and I thought I would have a mini crafternoon + it was bliss. There is nothing better than crafting and sipping on a cup cups of coffee. If you’re interested in making one of these super easy + super adorable felt banners, check out the DIY below!
You will need:
+ Felt in the colour(s) of your choice (I chose orange, yellow, purple, black, + white)
+ Scissors
+ A desk/table/cutting mat
+ String (I used black and white baker’s twine!)
+ Hot glue gun + hot glue
+ Wooden dowel (I used a 5/6in x 12in one)
+ Patience, coffee, salted peanuts + candy corn mix, and music
How to:
+ I drew out the letters I wanted on graph paper and then cut out squares of felt to ensure I had the colour combination that I wanted.
+ I cut out the letters by hand and honestly, it was stressful, ha. My letters are definitely not the exact same and definitely not perfect but I still really like how they turned out.
+ Once my letters were cut out, I arranged them on my felt. Simple!
+ I hot glue gunned the two pieces of black felt together at the very top.
+ I place the dowel underneath the glued seam I just created and then placed hot glue underneath the dowel to secure it tightly.
+ Once that was done, I glued the rest of the felt together + cut the bottom of the felt into a point.
+ I glued the letters onto the felt.
+ I wrapped some black and white baker’s twine on the dowel and BOOM! Done!
I may create a few yarn pom-pom tassels to add later. And voila! A super cute + adorably festive wall banner that you can bring out year after year. I enjoyed making this so much that I may make one for GBB’s bedroom with his name and a few cute felt cactis.
Last year, I created a tassel garland (you can see it above!) and it was super easy too–you can check out the DIY post for it here.
I’d love to see your felt banners! Hashtag #hbxofeltbannerdiy on Instagram so I can see them!!
Happy crafting!

Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote
and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any recommendations for novice blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
