There was definitely something sexy and womanly about being pregnant; everything swells + the miracle that is a sweet baby is growing within you. A sweet little cherub. It is a time unlike any other. And then the weeks go by, clothes get tighter, and your bod gets a wee bit uncomfortable. And then all you want to do is eat and nap. Those two things were always at the top of my to-do lists.
And then you have a baby. A sweet, darling, little bundle of infinite joy. Your body is not the same as it was. Sure, you can bounce back to your pre-preggo bod and you can have zero stretch marks (damn you!), but you + your body just brought a new life into this world. I don’t know about you but my whole universe changed.
It wasn’t one hundred percent about me anymore. I was (and am) completely and utterly in love with my baby + it was my responsibility to keep him alive and happy. When we first came home from the hospital, I wobbled around my house in those God-forsaken mesh undies + was topless 24/7. I was definitely not sexy. I was mama and I was (and am) okay with it. Totally okay with it.
Now, eight weeks into this wild + beautiful life with my darling George, I feel ready to be sexy again. But I don’t want to be sexy in the way I was before, because that just ain’t me (but Lord knows I miss my belly button ring and my daisy duke shorts, ha).
Here are the five things that make me feel sexy after baby:
1. Exfoliate. Yep, a good exfoliating session makes me happy. I haven’t been graced with perfect skin + I battle acne on a regular, it is annoying. I don’t leave my house without face makeup because I just don’t feel like me when my little red pimple friends are making an appearance. Ugh. There is nothing more annoying than applying foundation + concealer and then sweating it off or rubbing it on baby’s face or clothes by accident. Honestly, I don’t want that shit on my baby. I just want to burp him. Exfoliating helps me keep these little friends at bay and taking those few extra minutes to pamper myself feel pretty great too. I’m currently obsessed with this product.
2. Daily dance parties. George and I don’t really have a daily routine, we like to wing it cuz we’re badass like that, but we do listen to music every day. More often than not, we listen to Songza country (Sam Hunt, I love you!) and Carrie Underwood during our morning activity mat time/mama’s coffee + baby clothes put away time. GBB and I FaceTime a lot (almost every day!) with my bestie, auntie G, who lives in Los Angeles + we’ve been known to have a good ol’ dance party (even when I’m nursing GBB in the glider). Nothing feels better than a good dance party (and it’s a great work out too!).
3. Leave-in conditioner. This is a M U S T. Honestly. My hair lives in a top knot on the regular and when I take it down, there is no chance in hell I am able to run a brush through it. I look like freakin’ Medusa. I have had to comb through conditioner in the shower more times than I care to admit + I literally am pulling my hair out. This is not sexy. A good leave-in conditioner (that smells great!) is incredibly helpful + makes me feel like I am not completely letting myself have a mama fro/bird’s nest.
4. Laughter. Need I say more? Even when I’m not the one laughing (cuz I’m obviously the one telling the joke/story/anecdote), my heart swells + I feel good. There is nothing more beautiful than the sound of laughter and being able to laugh (especially when days seem dark or your baby poops on you). Laughter is sexy and it makes others feel sexy too! I’ve mentioned this blog before but Pregnant Chicken fills my days with laughter + some really great parenting articles; makes my long nursing sessions that much greater.
5. Confidence. I was going to write coffee. Coffee makes me feel sexy. Coffee actually just keeps me awake in the mornings and keeps me afloat at the 2pm slump…which is a really, really great thing.
Truthfully, there is nothing more beautiful and sexy than confidence. I have my up and down days where I’m not feeling my very best but then I look at my little dude and I feel confident in my ability to keep him happy and that he feels loved + taken care of. I trust that I am doing a good job as a mama (again, I have my days + moments; don’t we all!) and that makes me feel confident and fabulous. I think trusting in our instincts and knowing that we are doing what’s best for our baby, really, truly, keeps the mamahood glow happening. And that glow is sexy.
I mean, just ask my hubs.

Thank you for sharing this list, I had a good laugh throughout and feel better about myself knowing I’m not alone in my quest to feel “sexy” again! One product I’ve purchased recently that makes me feel sexy is Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses CC Cream with SPF 30. I’m always on the hunt for a no-fuss complexion corrector and this one has, for me, been a win! I whip it on after I wash my face in the am and it covers all bases! Not only do I appreciate the coverage but I feel like I’m doing my skin a solid too — it’s all natural + sunscreen + other awesome things like rose stem cells! Yippee!
