Oh hiiiiii friends! Remember me? Ha!
I never intentionally thought I’d take a month long break from the blog but here we are + I’m happy to be back!
Before I get into our Canada Day Long Weekend, I wanted to let you know there are a few reasons for this blog/social media break and one of them was the fact that I REALLY needed some time away from social media.
Oh, and my sweet GBB will be TWO in less than two weeks and I literally can’t handle it. Time flies and flies and flies and no matter how hard I want to hold all the moments so tightly so I can live in them a little longer, I blink, and my little 9lb baby is now a chatty + goofy toddler. More on all my mama feels in another post (soon!).
ANYWAY.
This past weekend was Canada Day long weekend + we had a blast! There is nothing (and I really mean, nothing) more amazing than having Hubs home for an extra day. It literally feels like magic.
We started our weekend off right with festive pancakes + getting our brand-new van! Eeee! Yes, you read that right. We sold our little VW Jetta + bought a VAN! It is so luxurious and comfy + the amount of space it has is straight up p-i-m-p. I never thought I would be an owner of a van but oh my word, it is life changing.
GBB loves it. Hubs loves it. And you all know how I feel about it.
Saturday was pretty low-key as the weather was super rainy. We spent wayyyyy too much time indoors (which I kinda feel is happening a lot these days due to the amount of rain that Toronto is getting! PS my garden is loving the rain…I, on the other hand, am going stir-crazy!). ANYWAY. We BBQed, we hung out, and we took the #bowmanmobile out for a spin to get some good ol’ poutine to really start our Canada Day celebrations.
Hubs went downtown to watch the CN Tower fireworks show and I stayed home while George slept + watched my neighbour across the street’s fireworks show that was equally awesome and terrifying. I was pretty sure he singed his eyebrows. Oh, and I was very thankful not to have a dog, as it was very loud. How George slept through it, I have no idea.
On Sunday, the sun came out and it was glorious. There is nothing better than a sunny Sunday + we decided to zip on over to the pool and have a quick little dip. George was a little unsure of his first swim of the season; he enjoyed watching everyone else swim and splash around him.
After an afternoon nap, I ran a few errands + we got ready for an adventure to the drive-in. Hubs and I wanted to see Baby Driver + I haven’t seen a movie in a theatre since I was hugely preggo watching Jurassic World (which I cried wayyyyy too much in). ANYWAY. The movie started at 9:50pm and although I wanted to get there when the box office opened (7pm), there was zero chance that was gonna happen.
Also, Hubs and I were fully attempting to keep GBB up past his bedtime (which we rarely do because overtired toddler/anyone is never fun for anyone!) and our plan was that I would nurse him to sleep in the back of the van + he would sleep until we transferred him to his car seat and it would spectacular. A mini date night on a warm summer night, sounds perfect right?! PS. I bought so many snacks and was PUMPED.
WELL. We got there much later than 7pm and the car line-ups to get into the drive-in was insane. Traffic was practically being blocked both directions with everyone trying to get in + get their drive-in movie thang on. There was no way we were going to wait in the insane line-ups, so we turned around + drove home with a very overtired toddler in the backseat.
George went to sleep and then Hubs + I sat around a fire and ate s’mores (you probably saw on my IG @hollybowmanxo, but they were maple s’mores!). It wasn’t the evening we planned, but it was definitely wonderful. I mean, honestly, any chance I can get some one-on-one time with my husband to chat and laugh and talk about plans and how much we love our George, I’ll take it.
Monday was probably the best day of the weekend–it was so sunny + we spent the whole day at the beach. We drove a few hours out of the city to a really sweet beach + it was the best. We, of course, got lost + took a massive detour, but we made it and we were joined by our friends! I packed a lot of food (a lot of snacks that were initially drive-in food, sigh) and the #bowmanmobile was packed to the brim. Anything you can think of to bring to the beach, we brought it. The joys of having a van!
GBB played in the sand (and was literally covered in it from head to toe) and I definitely acquired a few more freckles! Hubs got burnt despite the multiple sunscreen applications…I don’t think he does it right, or something. I brought our camping mattress with hopes that George and I could take a nap in the van but that didn’t happen. He was too distracted by the sounds of motorcycles and birds chirping and the music being played from the little ice cream shop across from the parking lot. I tried for 45 minutes before giving up.
The afternoon was spent eating more snacks (and sand..it’s literally everywhere!) and digging holes + building sand castles. We ended the day with ice cream and then hit the road. GBB was literally falling asleep eating his ice cream so I took it from him and then flung the ice cream out the window (I didn’t want it to melt in the car/I kept the cone to toss out) and he lost his marbles. I mean, fair enough, I’d cry too if someone threw my ice cream out the window. I 100% thought he was going to fall asleep + that he was done and I felt AWFUL with how upset he was. Here I was chowing down on my own”eye-sheam” (ice cream) and I tossed my poor sweet overtired toddler’s ice cream OUT THE FREAKIN WINDOW. So, basically, mom of the year award goes to me. I felt like the biggest a-hole.
He eventually forgave me when I bought his love with a small mini Thomas train figurine from Walmart–we stopped there so we could buy a DVD (Toy Story!) for the rest of the ride home (I was hoping he’d snooze…but, nope!). Yep, buying my toddler’s love. It happened. NO SHAME.
George fell asleep after three minutes of cuddling/nursing + Hubs and I have showered all the sand off of us (although, I still feel like it’s EVERYWHERE) and I’m staring at the heaps of laundry that I will have to tackle… tomorrow.
It was a wonderful weekend spent with my very favourite dudes and tomorrow is the start of my intense party planning/get my shit together for GBB’s second birthday. WHICH IS SO SOON, OMG.
I’m looking forward to family visiting (hiiiiii sissie!) + celebrating my darling George, who is literally my absolute favourite person on this planet. I’m obsessed.
Have a wonderful week, my friends!
PS I’m thrilled to be back AND please expect lots of fun + exciting content on HBXO! There are some really amazing things I cannot wait to share with you all.
