I was originally going to write a “Five Things We Love About Each Other” post + I even had hubs write his part out for me (it was super sweet and I gave him a very tight deadline, ha) but I’ve changed my mind.
While I was writing out the five things I loved about my husband, I realized, 1. I am not meant to write small bullet points on what I love about hubs, and 2. My love for him was meant to be in a whole post on it’s own.
Yes, cheese. But, hey! It’s Valentine’s week + I love my hubs!
So. Here it is, my first-ever open letter and it is addressed to the love of my life.
Honeyyyyy,
I had a hard time putting into words five things I love about you. Thank you for writing down your 6 things (I love that you added a bonus!) that you love about me; they were all very sweet.
So, here’s the thing.
We’ve been together nearly seven years; almost married three and a day does not go by without my gratitude and appreciation of our love + friendship. It is not lost on me. You are the very best part of my day, every day. George and I are lucky to have you.
As many little girls do, when I was younger, I often thought about my future + what I wanted for myself (usually when I was playing with my Barbies because that was real life!). I always wanted to be a princess, and was pretty convinced I was going to marry Prince William + be an actress.
ANYWAY.
I always dreamt of having a best friend + husband who would support me, make me laugh, and who was super cute (duh!). I always dreamt of having parties at my home filled with love and laughter, and children making memories.
And I have that.
You don’t always realize the decisions + plans you make while you’re living your life and then you wake up one day and look around, realize, that everything you’ve ever really truly dreamt about is happening right now.
It’s a wonderful feeling.
This happened to me a few weeks back. I was watching George play solo with his stacking cups + cooing (and drooling) and I felt so calm + happy. I was living the life I had always dreamed of.
A life of early mornings, lots of coffee, laughter, baby poo, sports on the television, and breakfast for dinner (sometimes twice a week!). A life of cuddles, and arguments, and country music playing on the radio. A life of creating, dreaming, and chilling outside with a cold drink + BBQ. A life of love.
Did you know that you have a very specific way you smile + laugh with George? You look at him differently than with anyone else; it’s like your eyes are pouring out love. And your laugh is deeper, fuller.
Witnessing those moments make my heart soar + my eyes well up because you, my darling husband, are the most wonderful father. George is obsessed with you. And so am I.
I love that you are a fantastic driver. Your ability to just know how something works and runs; this is probably why I assume you know the answer to everything. Also, I hope one day we will have a large enough yard for you to own a whole bunch of tractors/backhoes/machines that you can drive to your hearts content. And build me a pool while you’re at it, pretty please with a cherry on top.
Oh, honey, you make me laugh so hard. All the time. You’re a fool + I love it. The impersonations. The voices. The characters. The way you sing the same line of a song OVER AND OVER and it drives me flippin mental but always makes me crack a smile. We laugh together a lot.
And I love the way you love me. The deep down, would-walk-to-the-ends-of-the-
Woah, I am a sap-fest.
We started dating when we were just in our early 20’s + we have often said, we didn’t expect to meet each other so early in our lives, but babe, I am so glad we did; it means many, many, many years together making memories + being the very best friends.
I love you so very much. Here’s to many, many, many more Valentine’s Days together (it is your favourite holiday after all, ha).
Love, your wife.
XO
